“GOD’S ARMY” — A short story which happened this morning of how I was seeing God moving right before my eyes. Don’t get me wrong, this is just the start…
For weeks now, after dropping my wife off, I head straight to a skatepark before going to work. Today’s choice is the Bonita skatepark at Arcadia. I usually arrive after a 40-minute drive. Which gives me around 45 minutes worth of solo skating.
Today I was delayed. Gas station was packed. I lost a little over 15 minutes.
At the park I noticed these 2 guys. They were at the opposite end of where I wanted to skate.
I entered, saw a bike and one guy in the middle of wearing inline skates, greeted them good morning, but was stopped when Mario asked, “You got a lighter?” “Sorry, no,” I answered.
As I started skating away the other guy, Jeffrey, said something about skateboards. Not hearing it clearly I went back. “I skate, too, but I don’t have a board right now,” Jeffrey repeated. “That sucks, man,” I said, “you should get yourself a new one!” “Definitely!” he said, “So right now we’re just hanging out here and talking about God, man.” BOOM! My ears perked up, my heart felt like it wanted to burst, and my curiosity was piqued! I wanted to join their conversation. I wanted to know their views on God. I wanted to know their beliefs. I wanted to make sure they know the love of Jesus Christ for them.
I picked up my board and showed them the graphics: 180 Skate. Acts 3:19. Skate & Repent.
I told them a little about how Christ was moving through Christian Skaters Philippines and how we’re working on Christian Skaters LA. They were stoked. They asked me to tell them more, how it works, etc.
After a bit of that intro we prayed together. Then we continued swapping stories, encouraging, sharing, testifying a bit, and being amazed at how the Lord made everything possible for us to meet.
In the end I never got to skate (tho Mario did, borrowing my board). But I was blessed so much more by gaining these new friends. Plus they also want to help spread Christian Skaters in LA.
Focus on Christ. Trust in God’s perfect timing.
